Policies and Standard Practices
Pricing
Cessna 172 Rental = $174 per flight hour
Instruction = $68 per scheduled hour
Scheduling
Flyaway schedules lessons in two-hour minimum blocks. The program HoldShort is used to keep students and instructors informed of the upcoming schedule. If scheduling a lesson or student solo, please discuss with and allow your instructor to schedule it through HoldShort.
If renting an aircraft only, the scheduling may be made by the pilot through HoldShort. The maximum rental time allowed is 3 hours. Flights to be longer than 3 hours must be approved by Flyaway.
Overnight rentals may be made on a case by case basis. There must be a minimum 2-week prior notice to schedule overnight rentals. There will be a minimum rental charge of 2 hours a day on the airplane for overnights. The plane must be tied down. Hangar will be required if the forecast at the destination has 20+ knot winds or rain.
Night rentals are only allowed if the renter has had a dual night flying lesson within the preceding 90 days.
Payment
Invoices for flight activity will be sent by email on the 1st and 15th each month. Payment is due prior to the next bimonthly billing cycle by bank transfer or credit card (electronic payment will incur a 3% processing fee) through QuickBooks, cash or check. Cash and checks can be mailed to Flyaway Flight Training at PO Box 836, Maurice, LA 70555 or dropped in the blue mailbox outside the flight school offices.
Payment in full is due prior to the next bimonthly billing cycle. If payment is not received at the next invoice date (1st or 15th), a 10% late fee may be added at the discretion of Flyaway Flight Training for any overdue balance. If you are unable to make a timely payment, simply communicate with Madeleine and we will do our best to accommodate you. Subsequent and cumulative 10% late fees may be applied for every bimonthly billing cycle if payment is not received.
Advance payments are also accepted by Flyaway. Activity will be deducted from the sum each pay period and the student will be notified of the remaining balance.
Renter’s Insurance
All current renters and solo students of Flyaway Flight Training are required to have renter’s insurance prior to their first solo flight.
Flyaway Flight Training retains full coverage flight training insurance on its aircraft. The renter’s insurance is intended to cover the insurance deductible that you would be responsible for in the event of an accident or incident.
Flyaway can provide an application for AIG insurance with a local agent or you can visit Assured Partners – Aerospace, in affiliation with AOPA at www.ap-aerospace.com/aircraft-renters-insurance to apply for renter’s insurance.
Renter’s insurance can be purchased in a range of $170-$200 for a year and covers you, not only at Flyaway Flight Training, but for any aircraft that you rent or borrow.
Minimum limits of $250,000 general liability with $25,000 per passenger and $5,000 physical damage is required.
Cancelation
Aircraft rental and dual instruction may be canceled for any reason given a minimum of 24 hours advance notice. Cancelations with fewer than 24 hours’ notice may result in a cancellation fee except in the case of personal illness, inclement weather, force majeure, and/or instructor discretion.
The cancelation fee is $75.00 per scheduled two hour lesson for which the student pilot cancels with insufficient advance notice.
Flyaway has zero tolerance for no-shows. If there is no prior communication, then the full booked instruction time will be charged in all circumstances.
Flyaway understands that extenuating circumstances do occur, and will allow exceptions to this policy at its discretion.
Aircraft Maintenance
All Flyaway aircraft will be registered and maintained in an airworthy condition by Flyaway Flight Training as per Part 91, Subpart E. Complete maintenance logs are kept in the flight school and are available upon request to confirm airworthiness. Copies of all current inspections are included in the binder in the aircraft with the POH and current weight and balance. The maintenance times are viewable through the Holdshort website for each aircraft. The tachometer and Hobbs meter are to be recorded every flight through the HoldShort app. If any discrepancies are found, please notify an instructor. In the event that repairs are required on a cross country flight in which an instructor is not present, contact Madeleine at 501-940-9085 to receive authorization to make repairs or to make other arrangements.
Fuel Requirements and Reserves
Never trust the fuel gauges. Always use the fuel stick to confirm fuel quantity visually. The tanks must be at least 20 gallons total for local dual instruction flights, and completely fueled for all solo and all cross-country flights. Blue 100LL is the only fuel to be used for the Cessna 172s. Flights should be planned so that a minimum reserve of 60 minutes is always maintained. Fuel reimbursements up to $4.50 will be made by Flyaway for fuel purchased by a renter at another airport. The renter is required to provide a receipt for reimbursement and will be credited on the next scheduled billing period. Any fees charged at another FBO (ramp, service, or handling fees) will be the renter’s responsibility.
Oil Requirements
The Cessna 172s may not be operated with less than 5 quarts oil. If the quantity is lower, always add a quart back to 6 quarts. W100 Plus is the only oil to be used in the Cessna 172s.
Weather Minimums
Solo flights will not be released unless your instructor verifies your weather observation is within Flyaway’s policy for weather safety.

Flyaway Flight Training airplanes will only be operated on paved runways with a minimum of 3,000-foot length.
Lesson Preparedness
Our goal is to provide efficient and productive flight training. To do this we need your help by coming to the lesson ready and eager to learn and fly. Please arrive on time for your scheduled lesson and be ready to put all work or home distractions to the side. Be ready to listen to your instructor during the preflight briefing so that you understand the goal of that day’s lesson.
We expect you to study between lessons. Flyaway instructors will do their best to provide feedback of things to review as well as provide suggested reading for the following lesson. Come with questions and never leave if something is unclear.
Please come with any necessary equipment as well as all documentation as needed for solo flight, even if it’s a dual lesson.
Medical
Flying demands top physical and mental condition because of the high level of focus and stress. Please evaluate yourself prior to each lesson. For you and your instructor’s safety, it is important that you remain focused during a flight. Any physical deficiency or serious emotional problem can be a major distraction and seriously affect your performance.
Aircraft Treatment
Please fly and use Flyaway’s airplanes as if they are your own. We work hard to provide safe and clean aircraft for our students. No trash or personal belongings should be left in the aircraft. The pitot tube cover should be on and the control lock installed. Lock the doors if you are leaving the FBO at another airport. If the plane is to be left overnight on the ramp, use the tie downs provided in the baggage compartment. The seatbelts should be fastened to prevent being closed in the doors. All tools and belongings of the aircraft should be stowed in the appropriate organizer. No items should be placed on the dash to prevent scratching the windshield.
Aircraft Documents
Aircraft documents are to remain on the aircraft at all times. If a POH is needed for flight planning, notify an instructor of Flyaway before removing it from the aircraft.
The Airworthiness Certificate and Registration can be found in the clear window on the pilot or copilot side pockets.
Pilot Operating Handbook, Current Weight and Balance, copy of the insurance, and copies of the current inspections can be found in the binder under the backseat.
Social Media, Photos, & Videos
Flyaway Flight Training reserves the right to use any photograph/video taken while flight training on the ground or in flight without the expressed written permission of those included within the photograph/video. Photographs/videos may be used in publications, brochures, postcards, posters, newspapers, social media, television, websites, etc., for the purposes of advertising or social media.
A person flight training at Flyaway who does not wish to have their image captured for distribution should make their wishes known to their instructor. Flyaway will confirm verbally or through text message with the individual that they grant Flyaway permission before using pictures or videos of said individual on social media or in other publications.
FAA Regulations
Flyaway explicitly and completely adheres to the regulations set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration in 14 CFR Part 61 and 14 CFR Part 91.
